He later saw Lord Normanby at the Colonial Office, who allowed him to see Bandinel's paper, undertook to act on Glenelg's minute, stipulated that the expedition to Africa should start in the late summer, and listened to his plea for money for African education. He describes subsequent interviews with James Stephen, whom he advised to stick by his post, with Bandinel, whose views agreed with his own, and with Stanley at the Treasury, followed by an abortive visit to the Admiralty. He had gone to the coaching office to book seats for the following Tuesday. Other visits were paid to Glenelg, Lushington, who wanted him to establish a new, large African Institution, to John Taylor, Bowring, and finally to Lord Palmerston, for whom he was then waiting.
