Buxton to Lord Palmerston, explaining that since he had to leave London [because of Richenda being ill with measles], he was writing about matters he would otherwise have discussed with him, namely, the extent to which he was using Bowring's information on the slave trade in Egypt in his book, the information Palmerston had provided, concerning which he had not revealed the source, and his attempt to avoid any matter that might cause trouble, 22 Feb 1839
He encloses the letter from Count Leon de Laborde and his account of a slave hunt. He asks whether Palmerston had managed to acquire Fernando Po (Bioko) and informs him that he had received a lot of information from Rendell, who hoped to be appointed to Cape de Verde; Rendell would do all he could to suppress the slave trade. Finally, he asks for the return of the letter and pamphlet when he had finished with them. (Copy.)
