She describes the evening spent at Hampstead, at which James Stephen commented on the calamity of Brougham having got hold of Buxton's book - he later thought it was the best thing that could have happened. They thought it brought greater pressure to bear on the government and that possibly Brougham might be cheated out of a fine speech. She records Glenelg's wish that the book should be no more publicised, Buxton's idea of calling in all the copies he had dispersed, and Andrew and Samuel Hoare's determination to hang on to theirs. Finally, she describes an interview with Glenelg at which he asked Buxton a number of questions about the nature of the proposed company and Buxton gave him a list of questions about what the government proposed to do apart from the company.
