Since the climate militated against Europeans being used as the agents in such an enterprise, they needed to look to the Africans themselves to carry it out. He remarks on how strange it was that Stowell's idea had been occupying him for so long, observes that the Church and Propagation Societies were unlikely to take up his suggestion, and notes that therefore the question was how best to convert this idea into practice. He mentions that he would be in London at the end of the month and in Feb and would be glad to meet him then, when plans might be discussed for starting a subscription fund or for bringing this subject up at the Anniversary Meeting in May [of a missionary society].
