Spring Rice to Buxton, regretting that he was unable to accept his invitation because the health of his wife had induced him to move her to Hastings and to remain with her, except for the call of duty, despite their former plans that he should visit Northrepps, 16 Nov 1838
He mentions that he had spoken with his colleagues about Buxton's memoir and they had all raised the subject of the great loss of life occurring in any attempt to settle for trade in Africa, especially on the riverbanks. He adds that the matter would again be raised in Cabinet the following week. Endorsed with the gist of the letter in Buxton's hand.
