Buxton to [a gentleman] of Bridport, about the letters sent to him from there, the importance of the position of Governor of the Gambia, the education of Captain Hawkins being insufficient to qualify him for the post, and his anti-abolitionist sympathies, as shown in Jamaica, rendering him ineligible, 11 Jun 1838
He suggests that if Hawkins were able to bring evidence to refute this view, he should do so. An annotation refers to Letter Case Vol. VII, No. 62, 62 a to h. (Copy.)
