He declares that he is busier even than when in Parliament, with Sturge's followers insisting on his presence at meetings on apprenticeship, taking the chair soon at an Aborigines [Protection Society] Meeting, and other interests. He asks her to write him a speech for the meeting by 7 May and says that he intends to ask Priscilla to write him one for the City Mission. He mentions the paper he and Andrew had prepared on an African commerce scheme for submission to the Minister, and his wish that William Forster should be set the task by her of seeking facts on the extent of the northern slave trade, the lack of which was a defect in their paper. He jokingly complains that Forster's father had deserted the cause to go preaching and that if his mother objected to his leaving home to undertake the research, he should be encouraged to run away. He reports that his wife's eyes had improved and that their future plans for travel were not fixed, or, at least, if they were he had not been informed of it. Finally, he sends a message to his son Charles that he had received admirable reports of his progress, which had given them all great pleasure. (Memoir, p. 432 .) (Copy.)
