Buxton to Sir George Stephen, about his doubts as to the ethics of joining with the West Indians as representatives of the anti-slavery movement in Britain when they were both then so little representative of the mass of that movement, 12 Mar 1838
He doubts that they would be able to work with the West Indians because their views were so diverse. He thinks that if that group of anti-slavery people actually succeeded in getting apprenticeship abolished, they would both be most thankful that others had greater courage and discernment than they did. He begs permission to consult Lushington before giving any further opinion on the matter. (Copy.) Notes appended refer to Letter Case No. 15 and No. 15a for George Stephen's letter to Buxton.
