He writes of Andrew's cheerful industry on his behalf, their intended return to Northrepps on the Saturday, his hope that she would not send Charles and Fowell off [to a clergyman to be coached] immediately on his arrival, and his regret that he had not been summoned to visit Rachel Lloyd. He mentions Palmerston's satisfaction with his view of the slave trade and the encouragement given him to proceed with his pamphlet, and his conversation with Spring Rice about Indian sugar and slavery. He describes the meeting of the Bolanos and R.D.M. directors at which he gave an impudent gentleman such a dressing-down that he was in danger of being challenged to a duel.
