William E. Forster to his aunt, Sarah Buxton, about the meeting called by the mayor at the Common Hall in St. Andrew's Hall, Norwich, which Buxton attended and at which a petition to the House of Commons was read, 4 Jan 1838
Buxton objected to one phrase concerning the apprenticeship system being worse than slavery; it had been altered. He describes his meeting with George Thompson there, the speeches made, and the general reception of Buxton at the meeting, Buxton's statement of his own position regarding the apprenticeship system, and his wish that no disunity should appear in the ranks of the anti-slavery movement. He also mentions Richenda's and Anna's enjoyment of it. (Copy.)
