Edward Buxton to Priscilla Johnston, about the elections in Fifeshire and Weymouth, and his father's decision to remain in Weymouth to attend a dinner given by his friends, 27 Jul 1837
(A note by the transcriber records that this dinner was cancelled because of Penny's death). He describes the effect of Burdon's withdrawal, their efforts to obtain votes, and his father's behaviour after the result was announced. He reports his own return to London, the offer of another, safe seat to his father, the latter's unwillingness to accept the Anti-slavery party's eagerness for him to do so, and the death of Penny.
