Richenda Buxton to Priscilla Johnston, on the nomination of the candidates at Weymouth, where there was such a noise that the nomination speeches could not be heard, the progress of their canvassing for the rest of that day, the polling on the following day, and her father's defeat and cheerful return home to Bellfield, 27 Jul 1837
She quotes her father's letter, saying how contented he was, reports on the offer of another borough to Buxton by her uncle [Samuel] Gurney, which she had no doubt he would refuse, and her own hopes that the new Member for Weymouth would thoroughly disappoint the electors and be overwhelmed with work.
