About:

  1. his neglecting to inform them of the state of the report
  2. making amends now by providing a full account of his feelings when he heard about the additional despatches
  3. his fear that a delay in view of the King's health might entail his being out of Parliament before work on South Africa could be resumed
  4. the agreement with Sir George Grey that all passages on the late war in South Africa could be excised from the report and that Grey himself might mark the passages to which he objected; the final decision, however, was to rest with Buxton
  5. his own willingness to sacrifice large portions in order to obtain the publication of the greater part and confidence that the damage caused by the cuts would not be significant
  6. the suggestions sent him by George Stephen, which appeared on a first reading to be harder on the Boer than the proposals they themselves were making, although otherwise admirable
  7. offering them consolation concerning the cuts, he writes that he would send a list of them and asks for any improvements they could think of to be sent him on the following Tuesday
  8. his request for information on the health of his son Fowell, with the addition of a postscript about an improvement in the King's health.
