John Jeremie to Buxton, about the disturbances in Mauritius, which Sir George Grey thought had been put down with ease, 22 Feb 1836
Jeremie disagreed, claiming that the troublemakers had been reinstated and continued to intrigue, and that he himself had been called upon to perform first-rate duties in second-rate posts but that nominal reinstatement in his Mauritian post justified his action. Though he would not refuse to return a second time, his inclination was now to go elsewhere.
