Buxton to Josiah Forster, asking whether Lushington had seen his two letters to Stokes and George Stephen's letter in The Times of 14 Jan, because his decision had been made to avoid publicity and he thought that, in view of events, it would be impossible to hide the dispute from the public, 18 Jan 1836
He mentions his fear that, in trying to conceal it, great harm might be done to the reputation of the Society and cause a split in its membership. The latest publication by George Stephen had caused him to change his mind about the value of concealment. He asks Forster to give Lushington the following letter if he were not attending the committee meeting.
