He was bothered by his tendency to become completely absorbed by the current problem and his inability to tackle difficulties in a philosophical frame of mind; he wished he could be as fervent about spiritual matters. He lightly upbraids his brother-in-law for not expending as much emotional energy over the writing of his book, designed to create Christians, as he himself did over mere temporal matters, and impresses upon him the dangers of delay since every month Unitarians died who might benefit from reading it.
