He mentions that four men and one woman had been hanged that day and that, after dining at St. Mildred's Court with the Frys, he was going with them and two policemen to inspect the prisons in the east end of the city. Samuel and Elizabeth Gurney were setting out for Ireland and he thought they would be glad of a letter from her sent to the Post Office in Dublin. He remarks on the number of good causes presenting themselves for his interest, including the African Institution. He declares that he had by no means forgotten Priscilla Gurney and that he was a little vexed that she had not reported on the doctor's opinion on her condition and on herself. (Memoir, p. 101.)
