He writes that he was pleased at Cooper's decision and that although he had expected to be in Norfolk, he could not leave town at present because of the distressing local situation. He describes a visit made with Samuel Hoare that day to the poor of Spitalfields and their intention to hold a public meeting to raise funds to alleviate the distress. (Memoir, p. 60.)
