At the Meeting, he had meditated on the number of escapes from danger he had had and the blessings he enjoyed and had concluded that he had not brought such disasters upon himself from any negligence or misconduct. He describes how he had vindicated his actions in Brewery business to the Villebois and his own partners without boosting his own reputation, but as he had not yet spoken with his uncle Sampson, he did not know how he had fared. He was confident that his prayer that whatever happened might be for the best would be answered, and he was therefore not worried. He writes that he could not tell her when he would be at Weymouth but that he longed to be with her as much as ever. He reports enjoying a visit to Louisa at Hampstead and that he had shot all the dogs and drowned the cats [at their home], after a man and some boys had been bitten and he thought his own risk was justified despite her fears.
