There are twelve boxes of photographic records in this collection, consisting of three photograph albums, almost 2,500 loose photographs, and about half that number of negatives. As a child, Margery Perham shared her brothers' interest in photography and later, on her travels, developed a keen eye for good illustrations for her travel diaries, some of which have been used in the published versions. She also compiled series of photographs on a particular theme, such as studies of heads of Ethiopians which illustrated ethnic and racial differences. To her own photographs have been added others provided by friends knowing that she was interested in a particular subject, and she was not averse to augmenting her own snapshots with postcards collected on her travels. The first sub-section, MSS. Perham 474-50, consists of family photographs, portraits of Margery Perham and of her friends, and holiday snapshots. The rest are arranged according to the relevant territory in the sequence followed in the Territorial Section except that the first territorial box, MSS. Perham 751, holds the photographs of her holiday in Somaliland with her sister and brother-in-law.
