How to
request

This section consists of the working papers for Margery Perham's teaching of both the Colonial Service cadets and the serving colonial officers who attended the refresher course instigated after the Second World War on the recommendation of the Devonshire Committee Report, Post-War Training for the Colonial Service, Col. No. 198, 1946. They also record her concern over the fate of the Colonial Service during after the transfer of power. Thus, the first five boxes hold material on the courses at Oxford and Colonial Service training in general. It includes correspondence between those who created the courses and conducted them, memoranda by officials, curricula, notes on the students, and later correspondence with them about the value of the courses and the state of the Service. MSS. Perham 249 is devoted to material on the Africanisation of the local services and the preparation for the transfer of power. Material derived from the Summer Schools held in Cambridge to enable colonial officers, officials, and academics involved in teaching the courses to consider lines of development in administrative policy and methods can be found in MSS. Perham 250-252; it is related to that in MSS. Perham 242 in the previous section. The last box in this section holds press cuttings and annotated Command Papers.
