The papers in this section are, in the main, arranged chronologically and consist of notes for lectures delivered not only as a normal part of Margery Perham's university teaching but also to external bodies. The reason for not distinguishing within the arrangement of the section between the two kinds of lectures, nor between them and her teaching notes for seminars and classes, is that she tended to use the same material for all three purposes. Moreover, the development of her knowledge of and interest in particular subjects can be best studied by a chronological comparison of all three kinds of notes. An exception to this purely chronological arrangement had been made for MSS. Perham 242-243, where material for her lectures to the Oxford and Cambridge Summer Schools for serving members of the Colonial Service and the Colonial Office and her lectures on Lord Lugard have been segregated because they differ considerably from the general series. Lectures given to the courses attended by Colonial Service cadets formed part of the programme of her university teaching; they are, therefore, included in the general series.
