Biographical / Historical

Having served as a temporary officer in West Africa, Dempster arrived in Kenya in 1921, when he went to work for Galbraith Cole and Kekopey Estate at Gilgil. Until 1928, he worked under Will Powys, who was the General Manager of the Soho and Kikopey Estates. In 1930, he moved to Soysambu and became the manager of all of Lord Delamere's farms, at Naivasha, Gilgil, Nanyuki, and Lozesho (coffee). After Lord Delamere died in 1930, he worked for Tom Delamere until 1948, when he bought his own farm.
