- (fols. 5-10) correspondence between Ormsby-Gore and Oldham about the Swynnerton tsetse fly campaign, the need for the government to declare its intentions on colonial development, Ormsby-Gore's opposition to Lugard's idea for partition in Kenya, and Jesse Jones's views on the South African situation; there is also an unsigned copy of a letter sent to Ormsby-Gore on partition, 16 Jun 1930-4 Sep 1931

- (fols. 22-25) letter from Sir Richard Rankine, Resident of Zanzibar, to Oldham about Oldham's book on Smuts; Rankine's devotion to East Africa and his hope that he could contribute to the solution of its problems; the delay in tackling the East African problem and the likelihood of the abolition of Governors there if a High Commissioner were appointed; Rankine also refers to the departures of the several Governors for England, 5 Aug 1930
