Volume of manuscript copies, numbered 1-14, of letters from Portal, written during the expedition to Uganda as Special Commissioner. The letters are followed by four pages of photographs by Colonel Rhodes.
Members of the Uganda Mission were as follows:
- Colonel Frank Rhodes, DSO (Distinguished Service Order), Royal Dragoons
- Brigade-Major Owen, DSO, Lancashire Fusiliers
- Captain Raymond Portal, Royal North Lancashire Regiment (Gerald Portal's elder brother)
- Lieutenant L.R. Arthur, Rifle Brigade
- Lieutenant C. Villiers, Royal Horse Guards
- Ernest Berkeley, Administrator, Imperial British East Africa Company at Mombasa
- Dr R. Moffat, medical officer to the Mission
- Mr Foaker, formerly of the Imperial British East Africa Company.
Letters from Portal to Ernest Gedge, correspondent for The Times (see below, MSS. Afr. s. 113, fols. 247-50), and other references to the Mission, will be found in the Archive of Ernest Gedge (MSS. Brit. Emp. s. 290).
