A portion of the third book of the Latin version published in 1668, containing pp. 149–154, 159–168, 176–182, 185–192.

On the first page it is noted in Le Neve’s handwriting that it is "part of the duke of Newcastle’s life writ by his dutchess", but it does not appear in Le Neve’s catalogue.

It is not in the handwriting of Dr. Walter Charleton, the reputed translator of the Life into Latin, but is in a hand apparently foreign, and it is noticeable that in an autograph list by Charleton of his own writings, which is in Smith MS. 13, the translation of the Life is not included.

Where the list of officers employed under the duke is omitted (fol. 99b) there is this note: "Catalogue, etc. [Hunc ego transilii, ne valde errarem in titulis honorum et propriis loeorum nominibus]". The preambles of the duke’s patents and the genealogy are also omitted.

On the reverse of the last leaf (fol. 116) is the following distich, written by the same hand:— "Epigramma. / "Cui magis (addubito) fas est adscribere laudem ? / Dux magis est dignus laude, Ducissa magis".
