One fragment, temp. Hen. VIII, is probably from some royal building accounts, as it contains an entry of payment to Thomas Nele of Hammersmith for the water-carriage of 18,000 house tiles from Syon.

A parchment cover in which the fragments were placed is marked "Tho. Hearne", with this note beneath, "Old fragments, from Tho. Rawlinson, by whom my name was written above". The fragments are marked with a star, *, which was a sign of ownership often used by T. Rawlinson.
