"Preparation for death, being a letter sent to a young gentlewoman in France in a dangerous distemper of which she died." By Will. Wake, D.D., 1687
Pinned to a fly-leaf is a letter from Wake to Chiswell, the bookseller, about the style in which the tract should be printed, and asking "only 12 guinneys for the copie, thô the book has cost me more pains than any of the bignesse ever did, and I am sure will sell considerably, still supposing that you make but a 12 penny book of it".
The title has the imprimatur of Jo. Battely, 25 Aug., and of J. Baker, warden of the Stationers’ Company, 26 Aug. 1687, in which year the tract was printed.
Also pinned to the same fly-leaf is a slip with this note by Rawlinson: "This is the original MS. of Dr. Wake, chaplain to lord Preston embassadour at Paris, afterwards bp. of Lincoln, and archbp. of Canterbury. The letter shews the venality of the man".
