Diaries kept by Dr. Rawlinson during his travels, especially in Italy: Volume VIII, 12 Jan to 16 Feb 1726
Genoa, Toulon, Marseilles, to Lyons. Prefixed is a short itinerary of the places visited, from Rotterdam, 24 June 1720, to Rotterdam again, 4 Apr., n.s., 1726, arriving at London 5 Apr., o.s. At fols. 28–30 are references to classical authors for descriptions of various places; and at the end of the volume an account of money-remittances received from England during the travels by Rawlinson and his brother Constantine, and some short memoranda relating to Messina.
The series covers the years 1720–1726, Rawlinson travelling in company with his brother Constantine in the earlier part.
Originally in ten volumes, but of these v. and vi. are unfortunately missing, containing the year 1723. Paged continuously to p. 2486, but now wanting pp. 1578–1797.
The volumes are full of descriptions of buildings, pictures, antiquities, and copies of inscriptions, as well as of notices of persons met, including many Englishmen.
