On paper, in folio.

The copies are written by a clerk, with occasional additions by Powle.

Amongst the letters are long rambling applications to his father (employed in the service of lord chanc. Bromley, no doubt Richard Powle, registrar of the court of Chancery) for leave to quit the study of the law and apply himself to that of divinity, for which he desired to go to Geneva, and for an increase of his allowance; and the others are to Audrey Butts, to whom he was about to be married, and her mother Lady Butts, wife of Sir Will. Butts, of Thornage, Norfolk; to Mr. Will. Reede, Mr. Butts, Mr. Hopkins, his cousins Thos. Rooper and — Shout, Sir Thomas Bromley (asking him to intercede for him with his father), Mr. Dethick, Mr. Wheeler (with an account of his journey to Paris), Mr. Bodley ("the merchant that dwelleth in Maiden Lane"), his brother, and Mr. Angelo.

The first letter is dated 23 Jan. 1578[–9] and the last 11 Jan. 1579[–80].
