- (fol. 562) i. Letter to him "at his lodging over against Merton college", not signed; 19 Sept. 1693. Expresses great sorrow at Wood’s "late affliction" (the sentence against him in the Chancellor’s court); Mr. Scott’s loss of above £5000; case of Cowley, the chief darling of the Muses, who by the mistake of two lines was stripped of the mastership of the Savoy; notice of a friend (of a family originally from Italy), who had had a chief share in the custody of Charles I and had suffered him to carry on a correspondence with his Queen, in return for which he was made at the Restoration a groom of the bedchamber; he was taught mathematics by Dr. Pell, and had a brother who was a colonel [qu. Henry Firebrace?].
