The Latin version begins: "Si dolor hic verus crinem damnare cupresso / Pullatum taxo seu redimire caput".

The English: "If this tru sorrowe counted be with fatall cypresse bowes, / Or polish twiggs of poplar tree to binde our mournefull browes".

This elegy is not printed in the old editions of bishop King’s poems, nor in the edition published by Mr. Hannah in 1843.
