With a coat of arms in stone at the top, and beneath the arms of the staple of Calais; on the reverse of the leaf the outline of the courtyard.

To the former sketch the following note is subjoined by Le Neve: "This is the gatehouse in the front of a great square house at Calais at the end of the prison streat, all built of freestone, I suppose by the arms, in the time of king Henry the Sixth [lege, Fourth] by Sir Thomas Rempston [lege, Rampston], kt. of the Garter. To the latter: "A court built round, all of freestone: 3 storys high, at the 4 corners a turrett. At each corner in the towers, on every story, the coat of arms over the gatehouse, cut in stone supported by a cherubim.

"In the great church at Calais, in the north cross ile window, an old picture of Edward the 3d of England. The City of London, an inne where we loged in the prison streat".
