Relating the proceedings at the election; on the very day his friends were meeting to drink part of a hogshead of ale at his cost at the Three Crowns on their way to vote for him, when they were hushed at and jeered by those who said he would not stand; the result of the poll at 11 o’cl. at night was 200 for Mr. Leveson, 193 for Sir Fr. Lawley, and 243 for capt. Orme.
The letter is dated 5 (sic; perhaps 15) Apr. 1685; election was on 9 Apr. Ashmole has noted that the letter was received 24 Apr.
