Respecting prospects of preferment, but inveighing bitterly against the frequent conditions of marriage by which appointments often were obtained.

Dr. Rawlinson notes: "The writer of this letter, Mr. Day, to my hon[oure]d father Sir Thomas Rawlinson, was a scholemaster at Cheam in Surrey, esteemed an excellent scholar, but much inclined to Socinianism, upon which account, as I have heard from my brother, in part educated under him, he refused a considerable benefice".
