Congratulating him on his appointment as dean, but earnestly dissuading him from publishing some papers [his book of advice to students at the university, printed in 1685] in which he has strongly reflected upon "the faults of one or two profligate men in the University," already animadverted upon with the utmost severity by the justices of the place, which may give occasion for much misrepresentation.
