Not printed in Remains, part ii.

Is sending two pictures, one "of an old acquaintance that hath lived long enough near the Sorbonne to take a doctor’s degree, and therefore you must not wonder if he be sent in the habit of one" [himsef?]; "the second is my lovely little mistress’s picture [the princess Maria, daughter of James II]; I know you have seen the picture of the father and the son ... It merits the noblest place in the best ladies closet in the country ... She grows more and more pretty and witty every day". The painter or engraver "hath made the head, the shoulders and much of the body big enough for a woman, when she is not yet nine year old. But it being the only picture extant I send it". She "acknowledges me her first acquaintance, being the first man alive that beheld her sweet face after she came into the world".
