Written by a hand of the time of James I.

The first query is, "Whether Christ’s Church hath not beene allwayes visible and soe to continue?"

At the end (fol. 355) are added, by the same hand, fourteen "Queries [of Dr. Walter Raleigh’s, interlined by another hand] sente in returne of the former, but never answered." A few more words follow, which have been carefully blotted out.

Custodial History

An account of these papers as being Dr. Raleigh’s is contained in a fragment, apparently in Howell’s handwriting, at fol. 450 in MS. Rawl. B. 281 (a volume of collections by Howell for the history of Cambridge), where these queries and the answers are said to have come from the possession of a grand-daughter of Raleigh whose name by marriage was Farthing, and are spoken of as intended for publication.
