Written while Weale was in confinement for debt within the rules of the Fleet prison.

There are repeated copies of the several papers, intended for submittal to the Lord Keepers in England and Scotland, the Commissioners for the Union, and others. One of the memorials begins thus:—

"This golden minerall is in the kingdom of Scotland, which by letters, affidavits, authors of good authority, the printed mapps of Scotland, and otherwise, is very apparent, and I presume not one of the one and thirty Commissioners for Scotland’s union but knows that gold dust is frequently found in the lord Hopton’s lands and in diverse other places in Scotland, and Crayford Moor and the Gold Scowers are remarkeable for it. And I have been informed that it is likewise found in some part of the lands of the Duke of Queensbury".

Weale proposes to devote the profits to the propagation of the Gospel, to augmentation of small benefices, and to the relief of widows and children of clergymen; and enumerates various collateral advantages which he expects to follow from the execution of his scheme.
