Founded on a grant for a term of years originally made by Will. III to the third Duke Schomberg of the Spanish wrecks, which was on the point of expiring, and which hitherto had been unprofitable, two ships which had been sent out having been captured by the French.
Among the papers are:
- (fol. 6) An assignment by the original trustees of a twentieth share to capt. Richard Long employed by them to search for the wrecks. This is signed by "Schonburg and Leinster", by James Houblon for his father Sir James Houhlon, by Will. Thompson for John S. Cardonell and himself, and by Sam. Briggs; dated 22 Aug. 1695, and bearing an indistinct impression of a seal apparently representing a figure rising from the sea, with a motto "Sic. pisces ... es. Seale. for. A ...".
- (fol. 8) A copy of an opinion by counsel, Rand. Wynne, on questions concerning shares.
- (fol. 10) "Reasons to present to the earl of Clarendon" why he should expeditiously take out the reversionary lease of the wrecks.
- (fol. 16) A draft of a letter to Schomberg in 1699.
- (fol. 17) A memorial to Mr. Anderson and Mr. Bird in 1711 as to the course to be adopted in consequence of Lord Clarendon’s declining to hold any communication with them.
- (fol. 252) A proposal to Lord Clarendon in the latter year.
