Strongly condemning his [Athenae Oxon.] as being anti-Protestant.

"Mr. Pearce, the bedle, always said, you writ as if hired by the Papists to abuse all the great men concerned in the Reformation, and to excuse all those that oppos’d it, even down to Bonner. ... You ... altogether neglect the famous History of Dr. Burnett. Without some care your book will be rather burnt than encouraged ... instead of doing the University honour, you will be esteem’d a public enemy".
