Regarding item i., descriptions are of the monuments of the barons of Greystoke, with a drawing of that of John, who died in 1305, and whose effigy is said to have been "lately removed by one parson Lowther from the north end of the high altar, where be entended to make a pew for his wife”.

Two other tombs, of alabaster, are said to be so "wildly defaced” that only tradition tells whose tombs they were; and the legs on one were broken by one Edward Atkynson, whom, "though he escaped hanging, God mett . . in his just revenge for that sacriligious villaynie," being lost on a heath, and found starved to death, and was buried there in a hole, "and could not be discerned who he was but by some writings of wranglings between him and his neybours”.
