The booksellers mentioned are Norton, Royston, Newcombe, and Bill; Norton was "in a passion of howling and desponding."

Enclosures: —

  1. (fol. 135) α. Letter from John Bill to [the Heads of Houses]; he was sequestered, decimated, imprisoned, for his loyalty to his king; and now, besides the Hollanders’ invasion of his right, he hears that the University has "some thought of comprinting upon me;" desires to wait on them; 21 March, 1671/2.
  2. (fol. 136) β. Representation that the Stationers’ Company are willing to continue for three years to come the payment they have made for many years of £200 per an. to Oxford, provided the Bible printers will continue to allow their proportion; but any further allowance will inevitably beggar the Company.
  3. (fol. 136b) γ. Letter from Roger Norton to the same; hopes (in consequence of losses by fire and innovations from beyond seas) that they will not require more of him than he paid the Company of Stationers while they were farmers of the Oxford privileges; 21 March, 1671/2.
  4. (fol. 137) δ. Representation from the King’s printers; their part of the £200 formerly paid was so beyond proportion, and so great their losses by the Fire, and by the Hollanders’ continual pouring in vast numbers of Bibles, when they had lost all their stock and materials, that they cannot comply with the Oxford proposition which is, as they apprehend, impracticable.
