The transcripts [in MS. Rawl. D. 352, fols. 5, 6, 10] are endorsed (on fol. 18*) "Paperes relateing to Mary Queen of Scots faithfully copied out from originals in the hands of Earl Pawlet, great-great-grandson of Sir Amyas Pawlet."

Hearne says that the letters printed by him were copied by a friend in Dec. 1717, out of a fol. book of letters to and from Sir A. Paulet.

It appears from vol. Ixxxv. of his MS. Diary that the friend was Edw. Prideaux Gwyn, gentleman-commoner of Ch. Ch., and that these letters were then in the possession of Earl Poulett. The endorsement given above would seem therefore to be incorrectly attached to the transcripts which precede instead of those which follow it. See John Morris’ Letter-books of Sir A. Poulet, 8º.
