Has delivered the two papers to Lord Dalkeith’s governor, but fears he is too bigoted for them to have the force intended. Has discoursed with several Presbyterians this winter, but has found them bitterly instructed against "us." Those of the Church of England do not shew so much hatred, but appear to have little or no sense of religion; "the more you and I, dear Sir, are obliged to the mercy of God that has call’d us from the darkness we were born and bred in. Card. Gualtieri says that a letter received from the King contains this: — What shall become of me I know not as yet, but I assure you I’le loose rather a thousand kingdomes than change my religion."
