Relative to the genealogy and armorial bearings of various English families whose names commence with the letter L; written by various hands.

The following are the chief articles:—

  1. (fols. 1, 2) i. Lacon, of Shropshire; pedigree to 1623, with arms in trick.
  2. (fols. 3-5) ii. Lade, of Kent; pedigrees to 1706 and arms in trick.
  3. (fols. 6-8) iii. Lake; certificates of baptism of Edward Lake and of his heirship to his uncle Richard Lake; 1652.
  4. (fols. 9b-11) iv. Lane; notes, with arms in trick.
  5. (fols. 12-14) v. Langford; pedigree of Langford of Cornwall, and arms of all the families of the name.
  6. (fols. 15, 16*) vi. Langhorne; letter from Le Neve to Sir Will. Langhorne, bart., 19 Feb. 1699, arms and seal.
  7. (fols. 16, 17) vii. Langston; pedigree to 1634.
  8. (fols. 19-28) viii. Lascells; a small quarto book of ten leaves, early in the seventeenth century, containing (1) a description of ten coats of arms quartered by George Lascells, of Kneeton, Notts, with his shield partly emblazoned in colours; (2) Charter of Will. I "dat in obsidione coram civitate Eboraci", granting to Alan, first earl of Richmond, all the Yorkshire possessions of earl Edwin, with a drawing of the seal attached to the grant, bearing the inscription "Hoc Anglis regem signo fatearis eundem"; (3) "Genealogia comitum Richemund. post conquestum Angliae", to 1341; (4) a painted shield containing thirty quarterings, with the names of the persons bearing the respective coats; (5) Claim of Roger Lascelles to free-warren and exemption from suit of court in Eskrigg and elsewhere, 22 Edw. I.
  9. (fols. 29-32, 37) ix. Latton, Berks; pedigree to 1657, with letter from W. Latton of Gray’s Inn to — Howell, and arms in trick.
  10. (fols. 33-36) x. Leake, of Scarsdale; letter from Chris. Bassano to Sam. Stebbing, Somerset herald, Derby, 24 Aug. 1715, and abstract by — Braylsford of many early deeds.
  11. (fols. 37b-8) xi. Lee and Leigh; a few notes of arms, with short pedigree to 1619 and arms in trick of Leigh of Ashfordby, Leic.

  32. (fols. 145-9) xxxii. Lyttelton, Staffordshire; epitaph [in the chapel of Magd. coll. Oxf.], arms in trick, pedigree. Of the epitaph there are two drafts in different hands; the second is that which the monument bears.
