The Registrar of the office at first at this time was Henry Chitting, Chester Herald (fol. 31) and the volume is therefore no doubt in his handwriting as far as fol. 52 b. On 9 Oct. 1635 he surrendered the office, and John Philipott, Somerset, was appointed his successor, by whom, therefore, the volume is continued.

At the end is added a table of contents, on two leaves, mutilated at the top, in a very clear and precise hand of the last [18th] century, by which also some notes are written at fols. 64, 65.

And the following papers are inserted, which formerly lay loose in the volume:—

  1. 1. Fragment of a long table of the descent of Grey of Codnor.
  2. 2. Table of the descent of the family of Picus of Mirandola, from book viii. of de Thou’s Hist.; in very clear and neat handwriting.
  3. 3. Epitaph at Kingston-upon-Thames on George Bate, M.D., and his wife Elizabeth; in the handwriting of John Aubrey, on the blank leaf of a letter (sealed with a coat of arms) addressed "For Mr. Thomas Aubrey, at Broad Chalke, to be left at the Lambe in Katherine Streete in Salisbury".
