The inventory describes the documents as contained in the various "bunshes," or parcels, relating to the various estates, etc., beginning with "Inventar of the writts of the baronie of Branxholme," and ending with "Inventar of the writts of Hassenden, gotten from the earle of Tueddell as Sir James Hay of Limplum, 1667".

The earliest deed is the first among the Branxholme deeds, being the charter granted by Robert King of Scots to Walter Scott of the barony of Kirkurd, 7 Dec. 1390; and the latest is among the Hassenden deeds, being a ratification of a bond in 1677.
