Report on the state of Ireland, the condition of the revenue, the means of subduing and governing the Irish and the English rebels, with suggestions for correction of abuses, May 1578
Addressed to the earl of Leicester, at the desire of the Queen, by [William Gerrard,] the Lord Chancellor of Ireland.
The Report includes notices of affairs from 1575, notices of the earls of Clanricarde, Desmond, and Ormonde, petitions of Irish lords, table of the allowances for the Lord Deputy’s household, and for the garrisons in 1577, "Certayne notes (delivered by the L. Chancellor) contayninge some devises to reforme the losse and brokine estate of Irelande" (fol. 80), and a collection of extracts from records, from the time of Hen. III to that of Hen. VII, respecting the revenue and various matters of government.
A table of some of the contents is prefixed, but without reference to pages.
