A small piece of fine black gauze, with the seal in stamped paper thereon of the house of Loretto, attached to an engraving of the house, with the B. Virgin, as carried in the clouds, etc., with an attestation, signed by Leonardo Ant. Nardini, the warden of the house, and dated 1 Apr. 1725, that it is a piece of the veil of the statue of the Virgin, 1 Apr 1725

Custodial History
On a fly-leaf Dr. Rawlinson has written the following note. "Within this book is a piece of the veil worn by the Virgin at Loretto in the Holy Week, given me by padre Francisco Maria Valla, a Carmelite of S[an]ta Maria Maggiore in Bologna, when I was at Loretto in the Holy Year 1725. R + R. To be preserved amongst my MSS".
